Myths About Health and Gluten Free Foods

Hello everyone! I’ve been watching a show called “The Food Investigators”- on SBS. They pointed out some things that I will bring to the table here. In a recent increase in Gluten Intolerance there has been a huge surge in the availability of gluten free foods.. Some people may believe that by eating gluten free you are choosing the healthier option. Unless you are gluten intolerant, there is no health or nutritional benefit to eating gluten free, apart from eating a few (very small quantity) less kj’s as a result of skipping out on carbohydrates that gluten is found in. But most of all, remember that if you think you are eating healthier by choosing the gluten free option, you are most likely missing out on a very important part of a healthy diet, by not eating carbohydrates that are needed to be eaten to maintain health.

You can speak to a dietitian about what options are best for your health or you can comment below, and I can research through health journals I have access to through my university to answer your questions.

I’m back! And with more knowledge than ever! Dietary Guidelines:

The perks of being a student- Got a great piece of knowledge to share with you that is the basis for what we classify as healthy, and what is not. And guess what; its all clean eating based. Winner. It is an extremely important read so if you care about your health and wellbeing and are interested about what you SHOULD be putting in your body, this is a good spot to start.

If you have concerns about what you should be eating, and what is recommended for optimal health, then read on because this is where it all is. And some of the information will shock you! (For example – it is recommended that we have under a kilogram of meat each week, who goes for the 500g steak a few times a week? Uh oh.)

Happy reading beautiful people! Have a clean, healthy and wonderful day.

Make It Happen – Goals

Hello everyone,

I imagine a few of you would have created a few new years resolutions- if in your 2013 list there was a goal about becoming more active, or there-abouts, then read on.

There are many amazing activities available out there for anyone who is interested in fitness and wellbeing, here is a list of a few of them, just Google search the one that interests you (E.g: Nike She Runs) for more information.

These are a great way of accomplishing something, working in a team, being outside more, enjoying some sun, and making the most of a weekend.

For anyone who suffers from stress, having a goal to work towards (especially in fitness, as moving your body helps the release of endorphins – the happy hormone) will help ease the stresses of life, you have something to focus on that isn’t life’s daily problems, and you can work towards something, making small goals each day to accomplish something to boost your confidence, self esteem and happiness, as well as fitness!

Remember to hashtag your activities – #365daysofpurity on Instagram so we can see your amazing active life and share ideas.

Have a wonderful day.

Count Your Blessings, Not Your Problems.

One thing many people disregard in their day to day activities is their blessings. When we meet with friends we usually talk about our problems, lets make an pact to change that.

One way of relieving stress, anxiety, sadness, or feeling overwhelmed is just to stop, and think about all the wonderful things that you can offer, that you are a part of, and that have happened to you. I saw a show last night that aimed to cheer up a group of people that had got lost in their lives by making them write their own eulogy- as a way of making them realise all the wonderful things that they have offered and that they have done.

If we all spoke about our joys and not our problems don’t you think the world would be a much happier place? Maybe you could make todays challenge to count your blessings. Easy enough.

IBS sufferers- We all suffer from stress, now, grab your diary, or a piece of paper and scribble down everything that makes you happy, and everything that is good that you have done, it doesn’t have to be big, or small, it just has to have something on it that you can be proud of. This year you are going to aim to change your illness, and I kid you not- all these processes have worked for me. I’ve had IBS for almost 5 years, and I’m finally turning it around, so that I am its boss! My symptoms are easing, and you can do this too.

Realise what good you do, and what good you have done, and have a wonderful day.

If you have Instagram, hashtag #365daysofpurity in your photo of something great that you have done, or that you do. Purity of the mind is essential to self satisfaction.

Asian Turkey Mince

This is a great lunch or dinner recipe, and can also be served as a finger food for an appetiser.

The Turkey mince option makes it really low in fat compared to other meat cuts. It is a 90% clean eating recipe and is very healthy, low in sugar and fat and is delicious! One of my favourite Summer meals.

Great for the lactose intolerant, IBS intolerant (exclude nuts from dish), dairy allergic and can be made nut free without any real taste loss.
